The Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), in partnership with the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) and Minaretein Center at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, is organizing the second seminar of Season 5 of “The Contemporary Family” Seminar Series, under the theme “The Family Amid Transformations and Challenges.”

The seminar explores how idealized images of marriage and family life, shaped by contemporary culture, media and social media, influence the expectations of young people and couples. It examines how comparisons with selectively presented images of a perfect life can raise expectations, reduce family satisfaction and increase pressure within marital relationships.

An interactive discussion will address the role of education, values, psychological awareness and dialogue between spouses in developing realistic expectations and more stable, balanced family relationships. The seminar is open to the public.

Key themes:

  • The concept of a good life and the role of education and values in balancing ambition and satisfaction.
  • Reviewing indicators across the four wellbeing pillars.
  • Educational institutions, critical thinking and awareness of unrealistic media portrayals.
  • Social comparison, unrealistic expectations, mental health and marital satisfaction.
