Bio :Her Excellency Arya Ali

A product of Georgetown public schools, she studied economics at the country’s premier tertiary institution – the University of Guyana – before reading for a Post-Graduate Diploma in Development Studies at the same institution. A firm believer in the power of education, Lady Ali then pursued and successfully completed an International Master’s of Business Administration from The University of the West Indies, while serving as Guyana’s First Lady. Having ascended to the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Ali transformed the role of the office from a ceremonial one to a service-oriented one, assuming responsibility for addressing a wide range of societal issues. She has also successfully piloted the National Beautification Project which is geared towards enhancing the scenic qualities of Guyana, promoting sustainability and healthy lifestyle choices, and raising the level of environmental awareness among citizens. Under this project, several green parks have been developed across the country to provide families with safe recreational spaces. Through her ‘InclusAbility Initiative’ Mrs. Ali is providing women, children, and persons with disabilities equitable opportunities to empower and improve their welfare – such as the provision of technical training and academic scholarships to victims of domestic violence and women in the hinterland.
