DIFI holds second regional discussion for youth in Jordan

Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), a member of Qatar Foundation, held its second youth group discussion entitled, “Youth Views on Marriage and Its Challenges”, in Jordan on 26 November 2020. The event was organized in partnership with the National Council for Family Affairs to give Jordanian youth a platform to voice their views on the social and economic impacts of the pandemic on marriage in Jordan, the impact of modern technologies and social media on marriage, and the steps that Arab countries can take to address those challenges.

The discussion saw the participation of 28 youths and Mahmoud Hishmah, Director of East and West Center for Sustainable Development, and Wafa Al-Amaireh, Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Accountability Specialist at Care International, as expert speakers on the subject. The group discussion is part of a series that DIFI is organizing in the region in cooperation with regional partners ahead of its upcoming international conference titled, “Marriage: Formation and Constituents of Stability”, on 23-25 February 2021. The conference, held in partnership with the League of Arab States, will convene researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss the topic of marriage in the region, in view of the commonalities between the Arab countries, as well as the cultural, social, economic, and political differences.

The outcome of the three youth group discussions in Morocco, Jordan and Qatar, will be analyzed, compared and then presented one day before the conference, to highlight the general opinion of youth and their insight on the subject and further enrich the conference’s discussions.
