Family, MDGs and AIDS in the Middle East

Examined the complex linkages between the Arab families, the MDG and the evolution of the AIDS epidemics in the Middle East. This symposium is titled “Family, Millennium Development Goals and AIDS in the Middle East: Linkages, Challenges and Opportunities”

Presentations and discussion were focused on four main topics :

Family, HIV, Poverty and Inequality (focus on migration, unemployment issues etc.)
Family, HIV and Education (focus on primary prevention among youth)
Family, HIV and Health System Integration (focus on women, girls and children)
Family, HIV, Stigma and Discrimination (focus on travel restrictions, PLHIV and key populations at higher risk of infection).

Each topic has also address two transversal issues Gender and Efficiency of AIDS interventions.

This symposium aimed to bring together senior experts from Governments , UN System, other partners GCC, ADB, IDB, IGAD, AU, the League of Arab States, civil society and academicians to discuss the regional AIDS response in the Arab world within the broader Development agenda and see how family is the key to reach them all.
