DIFI Participates in First Forum on Population and Sustainable Development

DIFI concluded its participation at the First Forum on Population and Sustainable Development, titled ‘Toward a New Perspective on the Relation Between Population and Sustainable Development’ held from April 14-15 at Qatar University.

The two-day event was organized by the Social Sciences Department at the College of Arts and Sciences, Qatar University, in partnership with DIFI, the United Nations Population Fund, Qatar Foundation for Social Work, and the Permanent Population Committee.

It aimed to discuss the relationship of the population of Qatar to sustainable development, and to clarify the interrelationship between human resources and sustainable development in Qatar. In addition, it analyzed challenges facing the role of youth in achieving sustainable development.

Following the opening, the forum commenced with three panel discussions, starting with a focus on the subject of ‘Demography and its Impact on Sustainable Development’, and followed by a discussion on ‘Population, Public Health and Sustainable Development’, before concluding with the topic ‘Socio-Economic Capital and Sustainable Development’.

On the second day of the conference, Dr. Sharifa Al Emadi presented a paper on ‘Family policies and their contribution to achieving the goals of sustainable development’. Other panels discussed youth and family policies, sustainable development, and the role of civil society in integrating vulnerable population groups into development.

The forum panels covered a range of topics related to population and sustainable development, and the impact of population policies on the achievement of these goals, including international migration, population changes, reproductive health, and population and environmental interactions. It studied the consequences of population aging and issues related to children and youth, education and labor force, while also highlighting developments in methodologies and data for measuring population phenomena and assessing progress towards achieving goals related to health, education, the environment, labor force and development.
