3rd Annual Family Policy Forum
The third Annual Family Policy Forum organised by Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), a member of Qatar Foundation, in partnership Qatar Lawyers Association and the Family Consulting Centre (WIFAQ) Law, commenced on 27-28 Jan 2019.The forum is being held under the theme ‘The Best Interest of the Child in Qatari Family’.
The forum was a chance to discuss children’s issues not only from a legal aspect but also from various practical, psychological and social aspects, and linking them to the contextual challenges faced by parents and children in custody.
The forum also resulted in a deeper understanding of all dimensions of the child’s interest under Qatari law and its applications in practice and to be able to identify the surrounding problems and gaps in the process, and then make the necessary suggestions and recommendations of policies and programmes that strengthen the system for children in Qatar.
The event aimed to work towards achieving objectives, such as studying and identifying the problems and solutions related to the interests of the child in the Qatari law.
The annual forum is an initiative by DIFI to provide a platform to discuss and identify family issues and related policies as a priority on the agenda of policy makers in Qatar.
The forum brought together experts and practitioners from various legal bodies in relevant government ministries in Qatar, community police in the Ministry of the Interior, experts, researchers and institutions concerned with family law, as well as professors and students of law schools, family prosecutors, judges and lawyers.
The event aimed to respond to the second pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030 on enhancing society by focusing on people. The forum also presented working papers and a report containing a summary of the discussion and recommendations.
