“We believe that a strong, well-functioning family is important for the well-being of adults and children alike. We also believe that by properly fulfilling its role of rearing and teaching children, caregiving and economic support, the family contributes to national and international development.
The world can no longer afford to ignore the high cost of family breakdown on individuals, communities and societies. For society and the state to address the serious challenges faced by today’s family, as called for in Article 16 (3) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it is time to go beyond the individual based approach to a strategic focus on the family unit.
Accordingly, we need to create a shift in how the family is perceived – from an impediment to social progress and development to a driving force behind it. We need to invest in strengthening society through supporting and empowering its fundamental unit – the family.
For these reasons, Qatar Foundation created the Doha International Family Institute to contribute to global efforts to strengthen the family through the creation and dissemination of knowledge on Arab families’ advocacy for the promotion of pro-family public policies in Qatar, the Arab region and around the world.”
